The collection consists of a transmittal letter, minutes of meetings, a journal of proceedings and publications. The 1947 letter tansferring the collection to the Libraries is from Dr. Robert F. Poole, president of Clemson University. Minutes include those of the A.B.C. Farmers Club for the period 1846-1848; from the Beech Island Agricultural Club for 1856-1862 (the first nine pages of this period are missing, although it forms the bulk of the collection); and minutes from 1872-1874.

Robert Franklin Poole, 1893-1958 was a noted plant pathologist and president of Clemson College from 1940-1958. A 1916 graduate of Clemson College, Poole received his M.S. and Ph. D. in plant pathology from Rutgers University. Poole was appointed associate professor and plant pathologist at North Carolina College in 1926. As president of Clemson from 1940-1958, he oversaw the de-militarization of the campus, the admission of women, and major changes in the physical plant of the campus. ...
